Before or After the Event

If you need to tell us about an issue before or after the event, you should reach out directly to Laura Riva through Facebook or at laura@dzouk.com. The earlier you let us know, the more time it gives us to plan for and/or handle the issue.

If you know someone has an issue with you that has resulted in you being banned or removed from any events, it is your responsibility to let us know so we can look into it in advance. If you do not tell us in advance and put us in a position of trying to manage the issue at the event, we may opt to limit your involvement in a larger capacity than we would have done if we were aware of the event beforehand.

During the Event

If anything at the event happens that you are uncomfortable with or do not know how to handle, you can approach any of the following individuals:

  • Darius or Laura (CZC’s organizers)
  • Caitlin, Shasta, Dana (Core Team Members) or designated volunteers

During the event, you should reach out in person as we may not be able to reliably check email. If you have trouble locating one of the designated individuals, the registration desk or staff (not artists) in the artist room can help you.

After You Report

Consent is a cornerstone of our reporting process. We will ask you for your consent before doing any of the following:

  • Speaking to the other individuals involved in or who witnessed the complaint or incident, including the person alleged to have violated the code of conduct in a way that may reveal your identity
  • Speaking with 3rd parties (for example, other organizers) in a way that discloses or could potentially disclose your identity or cause the person you allege violated the code of conduct to learn your identity
  • Mediating an interpersonal conflict between you and the person you allege violated the Code of Conduct
  • Calling the police or any other organization, unless there is an imminent risk of harm to you, the person alleged to have broken this code of conduct, or any other person (for example, real and substantial threats to someone’s safety or life).

The decision whether to give your consent remains your choice at all times. Please note that if you ask us not to use your name or you do not give us your consent to take further steps, we may not be as able to manage the issue effectively. This can lead to us not taking any action in some situations.

We will always look into any reported incident as much as is reasonably needed to make a conclusion as to what action (if any) needs to be taken either before, during, or after the event. After looking into an incident, we may decide to do one of the following:

  • Take no action
  • Advise the person about their behaviour
  • Mediate the conflict between you and them (if applicable, and consented to)
  • Require them to enter into a written behavioural agreement to continue to attend the event
  • Suspend them from participating in certain activities
  • Ban them (temporarily or permanently) from the event
